I went to see this last Saturday and unfortunately most of these cars will not make it back on the road.
A property owner in Rochester, WA bought the property and the barns had about a hundred cars. Mostly 914s and tons ov VW's. The prior owner had collection of over 1000 cars spread across multiple properties and some cool cars were pulled out of the collection prior to the sale of this property. When the new owner contacted a local VW club to ask for help getting rid of all the cars, they organized a community sale event to get them to enthusiasts rather than scrapping them outright. I heard about it through 914 Rubber and made the trip up to see what was there.
While some cars found new homes during the weekend event, including an LE, there are still many remaining that are now scheduled for the crusher. The seller allowed the organizers 1 more weeked to try and help rescue as much as possible. They are giving our community one final chance to pull parts before they're gone for good.
I didn't bring anything home myself, but I could see there are still salvageable components that could help other members with their restorations:
Exterior trim
A few good dash tops
Gauges
Turn signal housings
German glass
Rear windows with defrost
Interior components
Most of the complete cars have significant rust issues, but complete donor cars are available for minimal cost.
Location: 4714 183rd Ave SW, Rochester, WA 98579 When: This Saturday and Sunday What to bring: Cash, basic tools, trailer for complete cars
If you're in Washington or Oregon and need parts for your project, this might be your last chance to rescue these components. Even if you take more than you need, anything you put in our classifieds later helps keep these parts in the community instead of the scrap yard.
Time is running out on this one.

Might try to show up Sunday.

It is sad to see so many cars that likely will never get back on the road.

hoarders don't dream, its a compulsion they suffer from.

the sad bit is little time or opportunity to dismantle the cars.

So can interested parties just show up and start removing parts to take home?

If anyone is going, I would love an original stereo with knobs and in good visible condition. Bonus for 1975.

Maybe I’m too cynical but I thought that was the bring Cash comment (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Sure would be nice but I have some cynical vision of arguing with some VW guy about how a potentially non-functional Porsche 914 speedo is not worth $200.

I'm cynical, too, which is why I asked. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I understood that the parts weren't free, but the drive over is far enough where I don't want to show up and have someone tell me that only whole cars are for sale. It would also be good to know how they are pricing parts. If they're just looking them up on ebay to see what the 'going rate' is and over pricing things, I'll pass.

Yeah I hear ya . . . Seven hour drive for me and I don’t think I can even justify that if parts were free.

But the hoarder in me keeps telling me to go otherwise (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) the last thing I need is a project following me home (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

just looking at the pics had my head spinning. Figured by the time I get all my project cars done I will be 92, 20 years from now. Maybe I need to get examined (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

i like the way @StarBear has his priorities set to maximum correctness.

but i dunno how you would get into half those cars. wedged in so tight you can't open the doors? failing all else i'd just walk over the top of them and unscrew every single indicator lens and see if the trunks popped and pull the tail-lights i could get. no more hellas out there in the shops no more. just the ones you can find in the wild.

It's worth it when they are 356's. I did a 50 car deal once in Ohio, the guy had never sold a car, ever. We loaded 5 tractor trailers, and lots of U-hauls for engines and other parts. I even grabbed a Porsche tractor.
I doubt I will see another stash like that.
